The Scottish Community Foundation today announced the first five grants made from the SSE Moorfoot Community Fund. A panel of local residents worked with the Foundation to decide how the funds, generated by the Carcant Wind Farm, should be allocated.

Borthwick SWRI received £1,000 to hold a formal dinner in North Middleton village hall to celebrate its 90th anniversary; Moorfoot Primary School Parent Council received £1,000 towards employing a Forest Schools Co-ordinator; Moorfoot Community Council received £200 to help with printing of their annual community newsletter; Moorfoot Community Films (part of Temple Community Cinema) received £1,000 towards film making equipment, and Temple Village Hall Association has received £1,000 to buy 30 new padded chairs.

The Moorfoot Community Fund is administered by the Scottish Community Foundation on behalf of SSE. Approximately £4,600 is available each year for projects benefitting those living in the Moorfoot Community Council area. A panel of seven local people decides where the money goes. The panel includes a representative from each of the three village halls, plus four members of the Community Council.

Grants of between £200 and £1,000 are available, and priority is given to projects that will benefit a large number of people. Applications are considered once a year, with a deadline in early in March.
